Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is an asbestos cancer of the lining of the lungs, heart, or abdomen and the only known cause is asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that is often fatal within one year of diagnosis. The only widely recognized cause of this fatal cancer is exposure to asbestos. Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which malignant cancer cells are found in the sac lining the chest, the lining of the abdominal cavity, or the lining around the heart. Most people with malignant mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles at some point in their lives. Other victims have been exposed to asbestos in a household environment, often without knowing it.
